“Metta” is typically referred to as “loving-kindness” in the West. It can also described as loving friendliness, unconditional love, friendship, and even gentleness.

It is the first Brahmavihara or Four Immeasurables, which is practiced in Buddhist meditation.  The other three divine virtues include compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity.

Metta meditation is a powerful concentration practice, which builds compassion for oneself and others. It combines images and repeated phrases to deepen your connection with all beings and create ease in difficult situations in life.
